    MY TESTIMONY

In February 1987, I was gloriously saved, baptized in the Holy Spirit and with fire. I went to bed a broken, addicted and hurting woman crying out to the Lord wanting to know if He was real and if He was would He take the pain away? I was sick of myself and my life, having tried everything known to woman. I medicated with alcohol, drugs, men, food, porn, prostitution, so-called successful-looking jobs, etc, etc. Nothing would fill that void or ease the pain.

The road I chose to numb me out was incredibly destructive — to the point of trying suicide twice and having constant suicidal thoughts. Depression and oppression were so heavy after having an abortion, I could barely walk or even want to get out of bed. I wanted to drive off a cliff and disappear. Instead, I was placed in a mental institution for a while.

Self-hatred turned into self-loathing, which directed me into abusive relationships one after the other. I was raped by a complete stranger while I was out jogging trying to better myself and lose weight. That alone sent me into a downward spiral even further. All the men I got myself involved with were either physically, verbally, mentally or emotionally abusive. They were like moths drawn to the flame of no self-esteem and no sense of being. I truly believed I deserved it all.

After a visit from the Lord the night of February 8, 1987, my life choices were radically changed. Many addictions I was completely delivered from, and others have been a process while coming to know the Father’s love and consuming His Word. I have been able to come up out of the pit of despair by learning the Truth and Who He is. Jesus has set me free and constantly reminds me of who I am in Him.

My life has never been easy to say the least, but I would not change a thing because I can relate to almost every issue a woman can or will encounter.

You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free! Oh, He is so good!

    Statement of Faith

First and foremost, I am a Christian counselor. As a Christian counselor, I believe that hiding our beliefs and trying to do value-free counseling is both unwise and impossible to do – so I want you to know what my important values and beliefs are.

Like most counselors, I recognize that personal problems can come about because of physical, social, and environmental influences as a well as psychological pressures.

I also believe that many problems can be spiritual in nature, resulting from either not understanding biblical truth or from sinful behavior. I also believe that individuals are created in God’s image and can only feel complete and fulfilled through relationship with God through His son, Jesus Christ. Thus, Christian counseling, as opposed to other kinds of counseling, is very concerned with the spiritual as well as the emotional and physical needs of clients. The main goal of Christian counseling, like the goal of Christian living, is to enable clients to move toward greater emotional and spiritual health by becoming more like Jesus Christ.

As a Christian counselor, I am not limited to psychological techniques or to my own human effort and wisdom. I believe that God is the real authority in counseling, and He gives us the resources to change. I believe that counseling without the JESUS FACTOR is about as effective as applying a band-aid over a bacteria-infested wound. I believe counseling should involve praying about the client’s difficulties and looking to the authority of the Bible for guidance. In this way, I seek to encourage clients to build a dependency on God. The client can find forgiveness for the past, strength and comfort for the present, and hope for the future by trusting the Lord to daily meet needs and heal emotional wounds. I try to reflect the character of Jesus Christ and to love my clients like He does. While I do not try to force religion on my clients, I do urge them to develop a RELATIONSHIP with the only true healer of body, soul and spirit – Jesus Christ!

“Thank you so much for pouring into us. My husband left this afternoon for about three hours to read and study. I cannot wait to see what God will do in our marriage, family, and ministry through this wise counsel.  Our household has changed dramatically. This week while we were out running errands our boys decided to clean the house because they knew it would alleviate stress. I am just so thankful for you and the calling God has put on you. Keep it up! We pray for you often.” – R.W., North Carolina
